Isaac Cates and Mike Wenthe have been making minicomics together since 2001. They take a theoretical and a practical interest in different approaches to collaborative cartooning. Often, they create their comics using various formal constraints, often with input from friends and readers, in such series as Satisfactory Comics (eight issues through summer 2008) and Elm City Jams (three issues). Since summer 2007, they've blogged about comics and cartooning – their own and other cartoonists' – at satisfactorycomics.blogspot.
com. In their civilian identities, they are English professors, in Burlington, Vermont, and Washington, DC, respectively.

June 2009 Satisfactory Lecture Doodles
To create these images, we looked through our old notebooks from grad school (and since) for amusing or interesting lecture doodles. We initially made these drawings for no purpose other than occupying the doodler's hand, and no idea of showing them to other people. Having picked out a few likely old doodles, we each sent our own black and white images over to the other guy to color digitally. The individual titles describe the original note-taking context for the various doodles.
